Moraga native Chris Roming has been honored with the "Chesty" Puller award for showing leadership as a platoon leader with his Marine Corps company of more than 500 recruits in basic training.
Roming, who attended Campolindo High and Cabrillo College in Aptos, received the award after basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. In the new year, Private First Class Roming will report to Camp Pendleton.
Roming had some scrapes as a teenager. "He never once doubted how much I loved him and how much confidence I had that he could turn things around," said his mother, Pam Roming of Moraga.
The award is named for Lt. Gen. Chesty Puller, the most decorated Marine in history.
