Lafayette Restaurateur Has Big Plans for Old Petar's Spot

The Cooperage will serve "American roadhouse" cuisine. Think steak, potato and spinach.

By his own account, Bill McCormick was tired of babysitting the twentysomethings who flocked to City Tavern, the restaurant McCormick owned in San Francisco’s Marina District. The Lafayette resident recently sold his stake in City Tavern, and is opening a new restaurant at the old Petar’s location called the Cooperage.

"Here I can have a restaurant that's targeted more to my demographic, that's just a mile down the street from where I live,” McCormick told Diablo Magazine, which also reported the new place will serve American roadhouse-style fare.

Petar's last night of operation was in early January. McCormick is hoping to open Cooperage in late summer or early fall.

What gaps do you think remain in Lamorinda's growing culinary scene?
