Improv Comedy Comes To Downtown Lafayette

Improv comedy company Synergy Theater is taking up residence in The Big Room at Lamorinda Music, 81 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette, with its debut performance on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m.

Under the artistic direction of veteran improviser and Lafayette resident Kenn Adams, Synergy Theater performs full-length improvised theater, based on audience suggestions.

“In First Draft,” explains Adams, “the audience creates the play. All throughout the show, we get suggestions such as where the scene takes place, what characters enter, and what happens next. The fun is watching the cast take all of those outrageous suggestions and wrap them up into a single, two-act play. It’s really incredible to watch and it is always very funny.”

First Draft is only one of several shows that Synergy Theater will perform in their new home.

Their other offerings include Play by Play, in which a title suggested by the audience inspires a completely improvised two-act comedy, and Spontaneous Combustion, in which the improvisation springs from a series of real-life stories told by a special guest storyteller.

“Downtown Lafayette has really come alive in the past two years with a bunch of fantastic new restaurants and shops, but it’s still missing a vibrant comedy scene,” said Adams. “We hope that our special brand of improv comedy can remedy that.”

Synergy Theater will debut in their new home on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. and perform Saturday and Sunday on the third weekend of every month. Tickets $10 at www.SynergyTheater.com or (925) 408-8540
