Southbound, Away from Moraga, With 3 Mules

The Mysterious Mountain Man has been sighted in Cleveland National Forest, Orange County.

The Mysterious Mountain Man with 3 Mules is headed south.

When last we saw the MMM in mid-August, he was ambulating the dusty Moraga Way trail. He was then and is now a man of few words.

The MMM is searching for we don't know what. Dick Newell of Southern California searched for "three mules" on the Internet and found the Lamorinda Patch story as well as a snapshot of the MMM and his 3 Ms on Sunset Boulevard in La La Land. That's reproduced in our photos with this story.

Dick was "botanizing" along Maple Springs Road in the Cleveland National Forest in Orange County when saw the MMM, who said in his M way, "Going south, taking it one day at a time …"

Thanks, Dick!

He came to the school where I am an AP in San Clemente yesterday to try to get tthrough our campus and out to the beach. It was lunchtime, and the sight of 3 Mules was quite the stir with my students. I couldn't let him on campus, so he left out the Vista Hermosa parking lot and over the 5 freeway towards Frontera.

getting hassled in Laguna Beach by the PIGS on 12/12 the afternoon. Same sex marrige is cool, other people teaching your kids to be gay is good, a man with some mules totally unsatisfactory.

I was there today dec11th,at the Laguna Park....it appears the cops were kinda trying to accommodate the guy but they created more of a commotion then if they would have just let him alone. Then they escorted him down the road with squad cars and lights I wonder how far they took him.

Today we spotted the man and his mules on the bike trail along the San Diego Creek in Irvine. Had to look up 3 mules.com to see what his story was. Still not sure.

Saw the MMM walking east on Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, CA last night about 5:15PM just after dusk. He was being followed to slow traffic by an animal control unit because the highway was very busy at that time. Great to see him and his 3 mules, but what a mystery… Go MMM…

He was going down Huntington Drive in South Pasadena yesterday heading to the Arroyo (south of the Rose Bowl) to spend the night. The mules seem in good shape.

In talking with him, his main "cause" seems to be getting us out of our cars and back on trails, whether on foot, bikes or horses and mules. The mules look very healthy, btw.

Good to learn you spotted him, Brent. When I talked to him earlier in the week he said he was heading for KPFK radio in North Hollywood to tell his story. So it sounds like he's getting close to there. He allowed me to interview him on camera and shoot a bit of b-roll footage of him packing the mules and walking through Eagle Rock.

Just saw him walking down Route 66 in Glendora with his mules. Said he was on his way to san diego. One of his mules laid a big pie on the sidewalk but I was supprized to see him turn around and pick it up! Cool guy! Walk on!

I was nearby as I've been following for the last few days with my video camera. I've made kind of a pact with him that I will present his story as he would like it to be told. He represents something that is almost lost in our modern society: to move freely wherever one wants to go, treading lightly and finding peace and magic each and every day. Yes, walk on!
