Fawn Carcass Rots For Days On Deer Hill Road

A fawn that was killed on Deer Hill Road early Sunday morning continues to lie on the side of the road as of Thursday.

Joan Richards, who lives nearby, said she and her daughter drove by the dead fawn on Sunday morning.

"I assumed it would have been reported and removed that day," she said "Monday I drove by and the poor animal was still there," she said "so I called the city. I was told that there is only one person who deals with these situations. This would not be a priority, because the animal control person would be dealing with live animals."

Richards called again on Wednesday and this time the city manager's office agreed to put a tarp over the remains. But the deer carcass remains on the side of the road.

"Number one, it's inhuman," she said. "Number two, it's a public hazard and remains adjacent to a city sidewalk. Number three, I think that anyone coming into the area with the view of relocating and seeing that on the side of the road, is not something that would inspire their confidence in how the city maintains itself."

The County's Animal Control office was closed when Lamorinda Patch tried to contact them.

Until it's removed, Patch strongly suggests that you make a wide swath around the carcass.
