Spirituality can reside in many places — sometimes in a rough cross-section of a California pine.
At the Queen of Heaven Cemetery office, there's a dark cross evident surrounded by the light brown annual rings in a three-inch cross-section of a pine felled Tuesday.
The tree trimmers noticed the cross. Cemetery worker Juan Ochoa saw it and believed it was a comforting sign from his recently deceased brother, saying goodbye, according to a feature in the Contra Costa Times. The cemetery is in Lafayette near the Pleasant Hill border.
