A Christmas concert this evening (Saturday) by Shawn McDonald, a renowned Christian singer, to benefit brain-injured teenager Ryan Buchanan of Orinda.
The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Creekside Community Church, 1350 Danville Blvd. in Alamo.
Ryan Buchanan is in a persistent vegetative state after a sand tunnel collapse in the summer of 2011 deprived his brain of oxygen for more than 15 minutes. On a church outing to Sunset State Beach near Watsonville, after finishing his junior year at Miramonte High School, 17-year-old Ryan was connecting two deep sand holes with a tunnel when it all collapsed on him.
Proceeds are to go toward building an addition on the family's house in Orinda to allow the family to care for Ryan from the comfort of their home.
