Christ Church East Bay has planted a new church in Lafayette.

The church recently secured a long-term meeting space at the Lafayette United Methodist Church in the heart of downtown.

Christ Church Lafayette is an extension of Christ Church East Bay, which has established two strong communities in Berkeley and Oakland led by Rev. Bart Garrett, lead pastor.

Garrett has ties to Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, City Church San Francisco and the broader "city church" movement aimed at planting local churches dedicated to serving and renewing cities around the world.

"We are thrilled to be meeting in downtown Lafayette," said Garrett. "This is a wonderful, family-oriented city with a lot of heritage and sophistication."

"We want to be a blessing to Lamorinda and welcome people from the various walks of faith, doubt or non-faith. Our hope is that people will be renewed by our growing community and experience the love of Christ here."

Garrett will work closely with the church and pastor Kyle Brooks, who assumes the main pastoral and preaching duties.

Acalanes High School alum Mark Pulver, a father of five who works for Deloitte in San Francisco, thinks that Christ Church has something unique to offer.

"I think it will work here," Pulver said. "We want to serve this city. We also welcome the skeptic and love journeying with people no matter where they are on the path."

"People in this area are not interested in shallow or formulaic responses to life's questions or questions of faith and may be surprised by intellectual depth that they find here," he said. "At the same time, we're really focused on the needs of families who face a unique set of pressures and challenges in raising kids in this area. We’re really excited about the opportunity to serve this community."

Christ Church Lafayette meets on Sundays at 4:30 p.m. at 955 Moraga Road.
