Another Dog Hit By Rattlesnake At Rancho Laguna Park

Close call for a Moraga dog Saturday after an encounter with a rattlesnake doesn't go her way.

A third dog has been struck by a rattlesnake apparently in residence at Rancho Laguna Park on Moraga's south side, and despite a tough night it appears she is going to make it.

In a note to fellow animal lovers Bill Cosden admonished others about a cranky rattler he believes struck his dog Taia during an encounter at the popular park Saturday morning.

"Unless it happened in the yard (highly unlikely, as have never been aware of rattlesnakes around La Fond Lane in the 36 years I’ve lived here), Taia was bitten by a rattlesnake at RLP on Saturday morning.  Unless there’s a set-back she should be ok, but it got very hairy last night," Cosden wrote to a network of fellow pet owners.

Apparently, Taia was hit sometime Saturday morning, according to Cosden. She worsened Sunday evening and he rushed her to (which now has 24/hr emergency care, for future information) and was entering cardiac arrest as hospital staff administered an antivenin.

"...(they) were able to stabilize her in the middle of the night," a relieved Cosden wrote, adding that Taia is heavily sedated and that doctors will know more Monday evening.

"Barring a setback, she should be ok," he wrote.

So, here's hoping for a full recovery for Taia, a good night's sleep for Bill and the future application of care and caution by folks out at the park.
