JFK University Hosts Founder's Luncheon at Orinda Country Club

John F. Kennedy University prepared to kick off its year-long 50th Anniversary celebration with a Founder’s Luncheon honoring visionaries who were significant in their efforts to launch the pioneering educational institution.   Held at the Orinda Country Club on February 25, the event was hosted by current University President Dr. Charles “Mac” Powell.

Attendees included Georgia Morrison who, with her husband Harry, founded the University in 1964.  Past Presidents in attendance included Dr. Robert M. Fisher, President from 1974-84, who also served two terms as Lafayette Mayor; Donald J. MacIntyre, President from 1985-88; and Charles E. Glasser, JD, President from 1990-2004.

The University began in 1964 in Martinez, but later moved to Orinda where it remained for over 30 years.  The University relocated to Pleasant Hill in 2004 to accommodate its growing student base, with satellite campuses in Berkeley and San Jose.
The ideals of lifelong learning and community service inspired a small group of educators led by Harry and Georgia Morrison to become the first University to focus on the needs of adult learners with innovative programs and accessible classes for working students.  During the past 50 years, JFK University and its more than 15,000 graduates have embraced JFK's memorable "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," through their commitment to community outreach and social justice.
