Carol Ann Robak, a resident of Moraga, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 after a nine year battle with breast cancer. She was 65.
Robak was a retired history and physical education teacher for 34 years at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School. She was devoted to teaching and truly enjoyed working with junior high students. Carol was also a loving wife to her husband of 42 years, Glenn Robak.
She is survived by her daughter Carrie Robak Gifford with her husband Michael Ryan Gifford, and her son Jason Robak with his wife Marianne Green Robak. She was a proud grandmother to Joseph Tate Robak, son of Marianne and Jason, and was excited to have a granddaughter due in February. Carol was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Carol was born to Joseph and Alberta Thompson on July 11, 1946 and raised in Rodeo, Cal. with her two sisters Jo Virgina (Ginger) Seevers and Sue Ella Harryman. She met Glenn in college while she was attending California State University-Sacramento studying history, and they have been college sweethearts ever since.
She said that she had always wanted to be a teacher. Her greatest joys were watching her students succeed, spending time with her family and extended family, and travelling anywhere there was water to look at. Carol's legacy will not be forgotten as she has taught many to be thoughtful, giving and compassionate. Her love of the holidays, birthdays, decorating, arts and crafts, and collections is infectious and notorious. She was always very welcoming to everyone who walked into her life and considered them family. She had an incredible ability to care for others and make people feel special.
The family will be hosting a memorial service on Carol's behalf at a future date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that a donation be made to Carol's charities of choice: Martinez Kaiser Hospice (925-229-7800), St. John's Shelter Program for Women and Children , or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen. org).
