(Political Campaign Announcement)
(Lafayette, CA) - Today outgoing Supervisor Gayle Uilkema announced her endorsement of Danville Mayor Candace Andersen to replace her on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors for District 2. Supervisor Uilkema is retiring at the end of her term in December 2012.
"Experience matters. District 2 is best served by someone who has City Council experience and has served on County boards and commissions. I have had the privilege of serving with Mayor Andersen on several County boards and I am proud to support and endorse her to follow me as Supervisor," said Uilkema. "Candace has the experience, education and training to analyze complex matters. She understands the needs of the community and how to carefully allocate the limited resources in County government."
Supervisor Uilkema has served on the Board of Supervisors for 15 years, the longest tenure among current board members. Previously, she was elected to five terms as a Lafayette City Council Member and served four terms as Mayor of Lafayette. "I have known and worked with Supervisor Uilkema for many years and I admire the dignity, hard work, and contributions she has brought to the County in her role as Supervisor," said Andersen. "I am honored to receive this endorsement from Gayle, and I will work diligently to represent the residents of our district.
Supervisor Uilkema's endorsement comes just a few days after County law enforcement announced their support for Mayor Andersen's campaign. Sheriff David Livingston and the Deputy Sheriffs Association, and District Attorney Mark Peterson and the Deputy District Attorneys Association have all endorsed Andersen.
Supervisor Uilkema's endorsement also builds on recent key endorsements by many of the elected local leaders of District 2 including: Mayor Carol Federighi and Vice-Mayor Mike Anderson of Lafayette; Mayor Mike Metcalf, Vice-Mayor Howard Harpham, former Council member and former Mayor David Trotter, and former Mayors Al Dessayer and Graig Crossley of Moraga; Council member and former Mayor Sue Severson of Orinda; Former mayors Sue McNulty Rainey and Charlie Abrams of Walnut Creek; Mayor Bill Clarkson, Vice-Mayor Jim Livingstone, Council members Dave Hudson, Scott Perkins, and former Mayor Abram Wilson of San Ramon; and the entire Danville Town Council - Vice-Mayor Newell Arnerich, and Council members Mike Doyle, Karen Stepper and Robert Storer.
