AND THEY CALLED IT "MT. EDEN"

Seeing the Eden Housing Project looming over Orinda Way, and they call it Way for a reason, not boulevard, and not road, I was horrified by the sheer size of it as compared to Lafayette's, a city considerably larger.  Therein lies the inequity of Plan Bay Area.  Altruism be damned.  Money talks, per usual.

This brought to mind the description of Orinda on the city website.  We are a semi-rural community.  Soon we will be semi-urban and we will not be able to call the north side of Orinda a village, either.  Nor will we be able to take back what the "city" does.  To use the Star Trek vernacular, "Are we being assimilated by the Borg?"  "Has our city lost its collective mind?"  Of course,  the senior housing will be in perspective when they squeeze in the other tall buildings on our postage stamp sized business district.  Will the sun still reach the streets of Orinda when they are finished?

The city did a survey showing a majority? of 400 residents were in favor of the bond to fix the roads.  Can you say PR campaign?  Of course people love Orinda, the way it is NOW, and that is what many of us are trying to preserve.

How quickly they have forgotten the 1000+ people who signed a petition against becoming a Priority Development Area.  So single minded of purpose.  It's a one way street here.  400 counts when it suits their needs.  1000+?...not so much

And are these statisticians mind readers?  I know what we'll do.  We'll lump together the 38% of the 400 people for the bond with the "probably" and the "undecided lean yes" to make 70% for!  It's magic! Kind of a, "How do we spin this?" moment.  I tallied 152.

Finally, we are creating urban suburban sprawl!  Give Mayor Lee of San Francisco his 30,000 low and medium income condos.  According to the Sierra Club, PBA has the money to do it.  The city is an urban center and the rents are becoming horrible.  They have the parking lots and space to put them on.  This is what we should be doing, not moving people out and up with their cars in tow, leaving the relics of great cities in decline.
