I agree with all of that. I consider myself rather recent to either of those sites so I'll defer to…Read More your knowledge of it. My issue with Patch was how they seem to try to create tension and arguments, and especially if they get a good fight going, seem to bring in groups that clearly are not local. I have little interest in debating issues with someone from Fremont, for example. I agree that News is doing a great job of local coverage. I can infer from some of the bits of information that one of their writers lives within a few blocks of me.

NapSol: News24-680 has its flaws, but I haven't heard other complaints about censorship. It's a…Read More crew of people who were doing "hyper local" reporting BEFORE Patch came to town and they seem to be poised to outlive Patch. We'll see. Even before the big reductions in editorial/reporting resources per Patch site, News 24-680 seemed to do a better job covering core local stories-- albeit with less overall content/audience than here.
Some of the regional/generic Patch stories are, IMHO, fine. But if Patch loses even more of its local flavor I suspect interest/traffic will wane.

I'm not sure what it means to "move to" the news24-680 site. Converation there does not…Read More seem to be encouraged beyond shallow "me too" kind of comments. If there are any conversations of any substance there, I have yet to find them. I know some or many of the discussions here were disfunctional, but at least there were conversations. I did a test posting there yesterday and it was censored or at least never showed up. My post was in response to an interview of a St. Mary's economist who is against trying to lower the $1 trillion dollar federal deficit spending. I did not say anything disrespectful as I recall, but I guess it was censored cause it contained actual ideas. By the way, I used to be an economist on one of the largest trading floors in the world, so in my opinion, its OK for me to have a different view. The News people I guess don't think so. Will still look at it cause it has some nice local news but its not for participating.

It is an important opportunity for parents and teachers to connect; both to hear what is happening…Read More in the classroom and share how their students/ kids are doing. LamoMan: "Back to school" is beginning of year and "Open House" is toward the…Read More end. W/R/T high school, I agree with you that it's not as fun as K-5. @Josh: I wonder if you find irony in your choice of examples. You pathologize people who have…Read More "...a severe distortion in how they view the world and God" as defined as people who view God as "...an all powerful source of punishment"--- but your diagnosis seems to require a causal link to having a crappy parent. What if people come to the conclusion/belief that you find to be an illness via means other than child abuse? Can the healthiness (or not) of a state of depend on the path taken?
Wouldn't the DSM (an interpreted by a fundamentalist shrink) require a diagnosis of "delusion" for a patient who had concluded (for whatever reason) than God was NOT "an all powerful source of punishment?" He who transcends time and sees, knows and controls everything everywhere surely also is in charge of punishment, no?

After reading this latest installment. I say: This kind of psychology as well as all kinds of…Read More psychology, is nothing more than a local anesthetic which comforts for awhile. "We talk about “hard science” or “hard data” vs. “soft” or…Read More “fuzzy”. One is clearly good; one is usually looked at with some kind of scorn. There is an implicit misogyny in this – the male is hard and reliable, the female soft and unreliable. "
Somebody has sex on the brain. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

The dog group at Stanley has been going to the school for decades. We have always cleaned up after…Read More the dogs and everyone gets along beautifully. It's been a strong sense of community I myself gained from the group of kind and friendly owners.
The incident that stemmed this has become distorted. There are other witnesses besides the parents who literally screamed at a very nice mild mannered young man. They cursed at him and treated him like dirt. What kind of an example was that to a child? His dog was not mean, excited yes, but in fact the dog diid NOT even touch the little girl. The girl chased after the dog's rolling ball. The dog came toward her to claim his ball. She freaked out and started screaming. Instead of talking to the little girl and man in instructive and calm ways to show dog and child all was ok the parents made themselves look crazy and the poor man was verbally abused. Dogs need to run and play just like people.
I'd like to add it is a fine to throw food wrappers, bottles, cap tops, and unwanted food all over the field, and most anywhere in this lovely Bay Area we all share. l have picked up hands full, two and times each night. I am a firm believer in freedom of religion (unless it harms third parties), but people of faith should use caution when picking (or joining) a fight based on logic and science.
The best strategy is to claim that those tools do not apply to the intangible and unknowable "faith domain." If you don't claim to be able to physically perceive or rationally understand something that exists only beyond the domain of human comprehension, then no one can ever "disprove" the quasi-existence of that in which you believe.

I would be hard pressed to give a synopsis...a conclusion to all of this. Sin is brought into the…Read More light by God's Word and conscious. We know inside when we do wrong and at first, it bothered us. A child who had no religious training training, still knows when he is doing wrong....the neaking aspect tries to hide the deed done. But, it is possible to sin against the conscious so many times, it becomes burned out and no longer flashes a red light. So, there is an awareness of sin that comes from inside apart from any religious definition. I still do not like the word "religious." It is a like painting trash to give it a better look.....like putting a diamond in a swine's snout. Man's nature is corrupt, and we were born that way. We never had to be taught to do bad things, it came to us naturally. Salvation in Christ gives man a new nature to co-exhist with his corrupt nature. It is like Ali and Frazier in the same ring. "Marvel not that I say unto you: "you must be born again" .

Having no knowledge about the book (which sounds like a good read)...we created a floatable (wine)…Read More cork boat with our 5 yo. Is It Possible to Predict the Next False ?
How many "Bizarre Coincidences" can our…Read More government fabricate before even the most steadfast stalwarts of big government righteousness realizes there is a secret group in our midst running, planning, directing, and then at vital junctures executing "go Live" terrorism? The answer is 22. That's how many we've participated in at the cost of thousands of lives and Trillions of dollars. Now, when something horrible happens, the first obvious pattern to be seen by the majority of us is our government's own involvement. This suspicion of a rogue element inside the FBI, the CIA, NSA, NASA and our Armed Forces doesn't have to be large, but it does need to be senior enough to have it's imprimatur of authority on the "go live" element of each operation. At some level of operation therefore the evidence can always be traced back to the "when" and the "where" this dark authority is exercised.
Predicting terrorism is making sense out of chaos, "Ordo Ab Chao" making order from chaos. At the very least, law enforcement needs to include in their research, occult symbolism, from numerology to birthdays and high celebration days of even the old WWII Nazi regimes....like Hitler's birthday. "Occult" does not mean evil. It means secret, hidden. There is good occult, referred to often as powers of the light, white magic, in service to others, and bad occult, referred to often as powers of the darkness, black magic, in service to self.

I really enjoy this way of eating but it requires a lot of trips to the store for fresh items. What I'd like to do is find a good balance with dairy and protien to go with my fresh produce. Hi Denise - great questions! I'll try to be brief.
Splenda is NOT sugar or food. It is a neurotoxin…Read More that also causes damage to the thymus gland. Also, numerous studies have shown that long term use of artificial sweeteners actually causes weight gain over time. (I'm happy to provide documentation on these statements if you like.)
Dairy is a tricky subject and could be the focus of a multi-volume text. Non-fat dairy products are higher in sugar, and are filled with non-nutritive gums and undigestible fibers to create what the industry calls "mouth feel" after the naturally occurring fats are removed. Basically what you end up with is a highly processed "food" full of damaged proteins and sugar. Instead, opt for organic, whole, unflavored, unsweetened REAL yogurt and add your own fresh or frozen fruit.
The Nature's Path Pumpkin Flax Plus granola has 37 grams of carbohydrate per serving. Let's break that down: on the label they claim 5g fiber and 10g sugar, so where is the remaining 22g of carbs? Those 22g are sugars that occur naturally so they don't have to list them as "added" sugars like the 10g on the label. That means you get a whopping 32g of glucose creating carbs per serving. It's also important to note that the serving size is 3/4 cup and most people don't limit themselves to that. For comparison, a Snickers Bar has 33g of carbohydrate and 27g of sugar.
