"Barn" Memories -- Anyone?

Canyon Construction is asking the community to share their memories of the 100-year-old building as a part of their living history project.

This summer marks the 100th anniversary of one of Lamorinda’s well-known landmarks -- .

The building has housed many different businesses including a post office, a  soda fountain, a hotel and a bar, and became the Moraga Barn as a way to get by a law that did not allow the word “bar” to be displayed in public.

The building is currently is the home of Canyon Construction. Larissa Durkin, the marketing and event coordinator at Canyon Construction, said that visitors often comment, “Oh if these walls could talk.”

Bill Durkin, who came up for the idea for the project, said that the project’s creators hope to gather stories and photos from the Moraga Barn before it was Canyon Construction as to preserve important memories and local history.

“People aren’t going to live forever, and there are great memories there, and we just want to capture as many as we can,” Bill said.

The project will culminate with an event on September 15, with live music and guest speakers. People will be able to listen to Moraga Barn memories and share their own at the event.

If you wish to share a memory of the Moraga Barn or learn more about the celebration, email larissad@canyonconstruction.com or call 925.788.8394.
