Video: Firefighters Pass the Boot In Moraga

Moraga-Orinda Fire District firefighters flooded Rheem Blvd. and Moraga Road Monday to "pass the boot" and collect money to help children with Muscular Dystrophy. They were pretty good - those boots looked pretty full.

If you were driving through Rheem Valley in Moraga Monday morning chances are you were stopped by a good-looking firefighter with a boot in one hand and a sign in the other.

The local guys and fire gals were out in force on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and they brought the same enthusiasm to the fundraising effort as they do to when called out on a three-bell structure fire.

"Passing the Boot" is a traditional fundraising method for firefighters everywhere and, judging by the video, a lot of Moragans caught on quickly. I like the guy who can be heard saying his arms were getting tired from all the money folks had thrown into his foot protector.

That's what you want to hear. They'll be at Orinda's Theater Square on Wednesday, they told Lamorinda Patch, slip 'em a little extra and send a kid to camp.

Firefighters giving their off-duty time to help out today included: Janet Brandi, Mike Martinez, Lucas Lambert, Adam Thornton, Brad Nygard, Jon Bensley, Mark McCullah, William Reed, Jason Ward, Matt Lopez, Clayton Hoover, Tony Perry and Steve Healy.
