Lamorinda Pot Delivery; Sonic Corridors; and Soft Breezes

How was it for you? Our Memorial Day weekend was a blessed event, with some downtime to rest and refit and fix some overworked tech gear (thanks Apple Genius Bar Guys Chris and Bob!).

It was what the Irish like to a call a "soft" weekend, marked by fair weather and good conversation. Neighbors and random dog walkers stopped to chat and let us pet their dogs, everyone talking in hushed voices befitting the weekend. We watched as the neighborhood brought out their flags for display and liked that, traipsing out to our curb to see the banners fluttering up and down the street.

We tend to get a little emotional on , watching ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknowns and thinking about departed friends, and we wondered if maybe we weren't succumbing to our memories when we heard the sweet notes of the National Anthem on the wind in Moraga.

Trumpet, hitting all the right notes and holding them. We stood transfixed and took it in. A check of our email inbox revealed that we hadn't imagined it and the neighbors had heard it, too. Turns out the Saint Mary's Gaels baseball squad was playing the USF Dons over the weekend and a young freshman named Darian Ramage trotted out to deliver the anthem on his trumpet. Sound carries around these parts, as you know, but no sweeter sound was heard over the weekend so we gave Darian a big Patch "attaboy" for his rendition of the nation's song.

Speaking of sweet sounds, we understand Acalanes grad June 10 performance at the has been sold out with plenty of locals -- and maybe a few of her old school pals -- turning out to see Nicki and her band, The Gramblers (good name) as she returns to Lafayette to see her old hometown and wow the locals with her talent.

Just because it was quiet didn't mean the news stopped over the weekend. Patchers were all over us as usual, wanting to know about a siren they heard, about a local development, a suspicious occurrence in their neighborhood -- all the usual things.

Things are busy over in Lafayette with on the City Council agenda (again) tonight. A plan to have local masseuses register with the Lafayette police and get the proper certification prior to opening their doors is expected to be passed.

Weekend emails confirmed reader interest in several other local developments -- specifically the project in Lafayette and plans for a massive new athletic complex at Saint Mary's College. Neighbors are wary of related visual, noise and traffic issues and we'll have more on that as the development applications wend their way through the planning process.

The folks at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate -- not always happy to see your Patch editor darken their doorstep these days -- reached out to let us know they'll be dedicating a new mural designed to honor Moraga teacher , who passed away in September. The JM'ers will be dedicating the mural on Thursday, May 31, at 4:45 p.m. and "recognizing the many people who contributed to its completion."

They wanted to invite community members to join them for the mural's dedication and to stick around for their annual Spring Fling -- which begins at 5 p.m.

Also in our inbox this weekend was an advisory for an unusual new business model serving Lamorinda these days. "Hills Farmacy," an Oakland-based medical marijuana operation, launched a slick new Internet site for its services -- and offering delivery service to Lamorinda. Many residents had wondered if the medical marijuana outlets would move to the Internet after moratoriums against "brick and mortar" business locations were hastily thrown up by the locals. Looks like they've gotten their answer.

The well-designed site specifically mentions delivery to Saint Mary's College and, yes, those "medicated" organic chocolate truffles you've all been craving lately are still available -- with a medical marijuana card, of course.

So here we go. It's a new week. Watch for some politicking on our pages and more news and maybe a laugh or two. It's time to get back to work.
