Lafayette Student Wins National PTA Reflections Award

Stanley Middle School's Lucy Clearwater receives award for music composition

student Lucy Clearwater received a National PTA Reflections 2011-12 Award of Excellence this year for her music composition titled “Come Back Home.”

The theme of this year’s competition was “Diversity Means…” and winners were chosen from hundreds of thousands of submissions across the country.

“My song was inspired by the urge to go out and explore new things that I've never seen before, meet new types of people and experience different cultures,” Clearwater said.

“Performing in front of 4,000 delegates in Anaheim was one of the best experiences of my life… When I'm on stage I feel at home,” Clearwater said.

Clearwater has been taking voice lessons for a few years and playing guitar since she was eight years old. She is active in musical theater, and has played the violin since age four.

Clearwater graduated from Stanley Middle School in June, and will be attending Acalanes High School next year.

“Winning the award will push me to work even harder to achieve greater goals,” Clearwater said.
