Lab Sisters In Need of Home; Burton Valley

Ever had a Labrador in your life? The Jeffries family of Lafayette have kindly taken in two -- but the dogs need a permanent, Lab-loving home.

If a Labrador ever allowed you into his or her life you know about the bond that can develop over time. They're special.

Two of the dogs tumbled into the Jeffries family household in Burton Valley last week and while Gorse Jeffries adores them and is temporarily committed to taking care of them -- sisters "Molly" and "Lola" need more permanent accomodations (the Jeffries already have a pup of their own.)

The family has posted posters, tried Craigslist ads and lost pet websites to no avail, so we're putting the call out to Patch Regulars with open hearts and maybe some room to roam -- room in your heart for "the girls?"

The Jeffries say the dogs appear to be sisters, about 5-years-old, and while Gorse Jeffries says she thinks they would be happier together she would hope people interested in one would inquire -- and perhaps future visitation privileges could be arranged.

"They are very docile, affectionate, good with other dogs (the Jeffries puppy says so) and with children," Gorse Jeffries writes. "Plus, they are good together which means they would keep each other good company for working families or when you cannot be at home with them. They are also house trained and do not bark except as an alert to people at the door or normal dog attractions. They are currently living in a fenced in yard and... are proving to be very low maintenance in a fenced yard situation."

Tracy Hinck of Lab Rescue says the dogs appear to be about 75 percent lab and perhaps with some Boxer as the tan one has a white patch on her chest.

If you are not able to adopt the dogs but would consider donating items of food or chew toys, let us know (Put Lamorinda Patch down for immediate donation of food, courtesy of fellow Lab "Porter.")

Okay? Big Patch "Thumbs Up" to the Jeffries and let's see if we can help 'em out.

Pretty babies but Cat says No. He will, however, pledge a chew toy

Awww, my old girl is definitely an only (canine) child. I posted this to my Facebook page to see if I can find any takers. Can you give us details on how to donate food or toys? I would be happy to contribute.

You know that is so kind of you but right now they have everything they need - apart from a forever home which we are all working towards.

The people who really need the help and the praise are the rescue organizations who do this day in and day out. WIthin days of the word getting out one such volunteer Tracy Hinck of Lafayette was on my doopstep with food for them and a loan of a big dog igloo for them to seek refuge in as they adjusted to their new environment. Golden Gate Lab Rescue are also offering to help them. Shake Wiggle and Roll in Burton Valley have also offered their help and support as well as spread the word and the lovely folks at the Lafayette Pet Food Express gave me free use of their pet washing facilities to give the girls a good bath before meeting prospective new families. I just felt the need to say all of that as this experience has brought home to me that these girls are sadly far from unusual in their plight although I believe very lucky to have landed in such a caring community.

If your readers are moved by the story of these two girls perhaps they can get involved in helping one of these wonderful organizations.

Thank you to the Jeffries! You are kind and caring people. I know the sisters will have a new home soon. This is a beautiful example of community working together.

Perhaps obvious question but has the Jeffries called every VET in the surrounding area? They must have been seen by a VET and with those adorable mugs who could forget them! Hats off to the Jeffries for stepping up...but how on earth could they consider separating them if they are sisters.

Miles yes I have called a lot of vets, shelters and rescue organisations. It's been 10 days now and they don't seem to be reported lost anywhere which makes me think someone has been unable to keep them for whatever reason and left them to their fate. Perhaps they have even been left here from outside the area. To your last point yes they should definitely stay together even if it takes a little longer to find the right home for them. As my daughter put it their bond is so strong that they are really just 'one dog'. They need a home without other dogs though as they are effectively a pack all on their own and wouldn't let another dog in. I hope that allays your concerns:) I can't wait to post a happy ending... soon I hope.

Happy Ending!! Hello everyone. I'm happy to let you all know that two weeks to the day that Molly and Lola (who will incidentally be keeping their names) turned up in need of some help on our front porch.. they have gone home with a new family - a lovely couple from Santa Rosa who found them via Golden Gate Lab Rescue who had generously agreed to help re-home them. I know they will be happy and well taken care of now and will have microchips and tags as soon as Friday I think. Thank you for all your support and encouragement. Good luck and goodbye lovely girls. We miss you already.
