There were some tense moments after Acalanes point guard Noah Orlik took an awful spill moments into the Dons' post-season matchup with the Piners of Santa Rosa Tuesday, but the Dons recovered sufficiently to claim the win -- 44-29.
Orlik tumbled onto his head and neck and appeared to have been accidentally kneed in the head as he went down, silencing the crowd as paramedics were summoned, working on the player for several minutes during Tuesday's game at Acalanes.
He was evaluated at John Muir Medical Center and appears not to have suffered a feared concussion, an e-mail issued by his parents advised Tuesday night.
Both teams waited anxiously as emergency crews worked to transport Orlik and resumed play after a hasty warmup after he was wheeled off the court on a gurney -- with a "thumbs up" to the crowd and teammates. He later inquired about the game's score via text from the hospital.
The hard-fought contest remained largely defensive after that, as both teams had difficulty finding their offensive rhythm, but the Dons emerged with the win after contributions from most of their bench.
The Dons travel to El Cerrito Friday for the second game in their playoff series.
