Cheesiest Commercials and Best TV Shows of 2010
Great reader response to our debut of The Armchair Critic. It seems Lamorindans have a few choice words for the people making movies and television shows - and don't forget commercials and television news.
We unveiled this column a couple of weeks back to see if people had any interest in dissecting the seemingly unending stream of blather on our televisions and the non-stop Chase-and-Explosion fests in our movie houses.
And, as expected, Lamorindans had no shortage of opinion when asked to share their thoughts on what's being fed to us via our airwaves and cinema.
The response was a little scattershot, as expected, so we've organized your opinions under recurring themes. As ever, feel free to weigh in here and we'll include all suitable and pertinent responses in a future column.
Worst Television Commercials of 2010
"The one hawking screw-in dentures or whatever that ends with the three-pack-a-day couple macking on-camera. Yecch." - Ed Henry
"Davidson & Licht. Hands down." - Cerise Pemberton
"Anything selling drugs for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, enlarged prostates or non-functioning sexual apparatus..." - Jen
Best Television Commericials of 2010
"The one where the polar bear comes down from the arctic to hug the guy with the electric car!! A big Awwwww!! - Sienna
"Green Police. Funniest fricking thing on television and that includes actual comedy programs. Favorite moment: "You picked the wrong day to mess with the eco-system Plastic Boy!" - Scott Lehman
"There's no such thing as a good commercial." - David Crane
Best Show On Television In 2010
"Walking Dead - because there's justice in seeing the abused wife of a hillbilly putting a pick through his redneck Zombified head." - D. Carson
"There were only four shows worth watching on television in Twenty Ten. AMC had two of them with Breaking Bad and Mad Men and HBO had the others with Boardwalk Empire and The Pacific. A lot was made about the acting in those shows and I admit it was good, but it was the writing that made those shows what they were - with surprises around every corner and none of the predictable junk and re-tread ideas the networks churned out and expected us to watch. With "Mad and Bad" off the air my Sunday nights are pretty long and boring." - Maggie
"...Breaking Bad is the best show on television today, a sort of Sopranos of the Southwest, with all these great characters running around the desert, playing out their lives against the background of meth production in this sinister, sun-washed world. I love that show..." - Stephen Older
"Lost." - Mark Rhodes
"It was great to be able to watch Steve Buscemi in action in Boardwalk Empire. His "Nucky" was a great character and I liked that they kept to the historical accuracy of the period instead of dressing up a bunch of actors and having them parade around a set it looked like they had been living there for years and were part of the scene. Why is it that my favorite shows are the ones where everyone is bad - even the police and the priests?" - Ron Cellieri
