Another Rape Alleged At Saint Mary's College; Second In Two Weeks

Moraga police are investigating a second report of a sexual assault on a student at Saint Mary's College.

Moraga police are investigating a rape that reportedly took place on Sunday on the Saint Mary's college campus - the second report of a sexual assault at the school in just over two weeks.

Students rallied in support of the alleged victims and to raise awareness about the potential of sexual assault during a 1 p.m. rally in front of the school library Wednesday. Around town, at popular off-campus student hangouts like and , Saint Mary's students said they didn't know much about the reported assaults aside from the fact that the accounts were credible and, in at least one case, the victim had been drinking when she was allegedly attacked by another student and an acquaintance on Sunday.

Moraga Police Chief Robert Priebe, who has said he would like to bring in a detective to help his understrength department handle "some of the big cases we are getting lately," said an investigation into an  alleged Sept. 11 assault on a young woman by a male student is still pending. Investigators are waiting for lab results before deciding whether charges against an 18-year-old Saint Mary's College sophomore arrested in connection with the incident should be filed, police said.
